About the Book

Dr. Don Clark returns to his hometown to live with his brother Junior after being away several years at Stanford Medical School. He returns to interview for a position with the prestigious Kacey Jones Orthopedic Clinic. He finds himself being pulled in opposite directions when he tries to satisfy two worlds. Burdening the smiling hypocrisy of the corporate Medical field he both envied and despised and the harsh realities of urban life that he adored and detested.

He finds himself in direct conflict with a child hood monster, Jermain Qartier, who has little respect for life and eventually destroys everything dear in his world, his wife-to-be, an adopted son, and his poor old mutt. Professionally Dr. Clark has to suffer through agonizing conflicts with an indifferent and cruel boss, who resents the fact that an African American has been accepted to his elite fellowship program.

Dr Clark slowly but surely loses his grip with reality and commits murder. He meets Charles Schaffer, a lawyer, whose reality is also evaporating before his eyes. Dr. Clark’s troubles are so deeply interwoven with his past that in order to fully understand his overwhelming circumstances, he digresses sending us through a world of simple truths about race, relationships, redemption, and forgiveness.

Much to the chagrin of Charles Schaffer, who looks for a way to find leniency in an old friend and nemesis, Lincoln Ward. Together, Don and Charles come to revelations and remedies, to help each other and eventually build a bond of friendship and camaraderie.
