After such stimulating conversation, Kirsten wondered if she’d be able to sleep. Hardly had her head touched the pillow when she felt herself being lifted gently from her bed. She was lifted through the roof and up into the night sky. She couldn’t see who was carrying her. She guessed it must be an angel since she wasn’t afraid and they were flying without a plane. After catching her breath, Kirsten looked around. There were many stars shining. Planets off in the distance reflected the light of their suns. Having left home so quickly, she had no time to put on her warm robe. Strangely though, she didn’t feel cold despite the night air. As they moved on, she realized the air was getting warmer, then very warm. ‘Is it possible . . .’ she thought . . . ‘that we are getting close to the sun? The light is so bright.’ As they continued, she found it getting cooler. Turning her head she saw the sun disappearing in the distance. She wondered about a speed limit. She was concerned that she hadn’t taken time to tell her parents she was leaving. They were very strict about that. Since she didn’t know she was going, she could hardly have told them where she would be, could she? She remembered the conversation about tesseract and hoped her parents would remember, too. Kirsten wished she could travel a little slower so she could ask some questions. She’d like to have asked about the comets and planets as she passed through what seemed to be a maze of stars surrounding them. Also, she wondered how it was possible for her bearer to avoid an accident at such speed. They had been traveling through a mass of thick darkness for what seemed like forever. The sky began to brighten as they traveled. They entered into an area of indescribably beautiful light, so bright that Kirsten couldn’t quite focus her eyes. As she was gently released, she didn’t have time to thank her bearer. She seemed alone on a puffy blue cloud. Drawing a deep breath of the most exhilarating air she had ever experienced, she became aware of beautiful music which sounded like many voices humming in harmony. Or was it thousands of humming birds with wings fluttering? It was music that human words wouldn’t fit. Delicate multi-colored butterflies were fluttering around . . . exquisite! As her eyes became more adjusted to the light, she was aware that she wasn’t alone. Among the blue clouds was a crowd of tiny beings-- somewhat like herself. They were singing, laughing, dancing, and sliding down the hills of the smaller clouds. That looked like fun; Kirsten wished she could join them. She couldn’t quite decide what they were wearing--something like translucent nightshirts. She was also aware that she would appear very different from them. She was wearing her PJ’s and to make matters worse, she suddenly realized that Billy, her nighttime companion, was still tethered to her wrist. She caught him up and held him to her. While she was so occupied with her appearance, she hadn’t noticed that one of the little beings had come close to her, hiding behind a puff of cloud as Kirsten watched. "It's all right; I won't hurt you," Kirsten explained, holding out her hand toward the little one. "Um, uh, m-my name is Gabrielle--Gabi--they call me," she stammered as she held out a small hand, "and this is Lizel. She always follows me. She tells me she wants to live with me when we get to wherever we’re going. Who are you? . . . Where did you come from?" "I'm Kirsten and I’m from Connecticut." "Con-nec-ti-cut? What is that and where is it?" Gabi inquired. "It’s one of the United States of America," Kirsten answered. Gabi looked puzzled. "On what planet is that?" she asked. "Planet? Planet? Oh, I’m from earth," Kirsten responded.

About the Book
Where did I come from? Have you ever asked that question? Well, one girl did and even received an answer. Fourteen-year-old Kirsten already had many exciting experiences. She had been to Argentina, Denmark, and France to visit relatives. She had also spent many summers at a cottage on Cape Cod studying the stars, whale watching, and more. Yet her most incredible adventure was yet to come. One night after falling asleep, Kirsten is gently lifted from her bed into the night sky. She travels through a wondrous bright light and is finally deposited on a brilliant blue cloud. Here, she meets "little ones" -- souls in training for earth service. When the "little ones" learn Kirsten is from earth, they become so excited and want to know everything about her at once. They are in their final training, preparing for their own experience on earth. Kirsten, too, wants to know, "Where am I? Who are these ‘little ones'? Am I in heaven or what?" Before you know it, Kirsten joins the "little ones" on a most remarkable adventure. About the Author
A ninety-five year old grandmother
and great grandmother, Elizabeth Goodrich enjoys family visits and her home in
Ocean Grove, New Jersey, where she is a keen observer of nature -- especially
the ocean.
Elizabeth’s young adult years were
focused on her job and the little neighborhood Methodist Church in Paterson,
New Jersey, where she met her husband. Their family included two small children
when he was called to the ministry, given a student pastorate, and commuted to
college and seminary. Elizabeth cared
for home and family needs by day and typed his papers by night using the hunt
and punch method on the old Underwood.
Speaking of those eight years, Elizabeth says, “His courses also
enlightened me as I earned my PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree.”
Elizabeth is a lifelong learner and
an avid reader of good literature. It
is only in the last few years that she has turned her attention to
writing. She decided to share insights
gained from life, “a personal letter from my spirit to my grandchildren, great
grandchildren and other young people.”
At age 87, while writing longhand, she was convinced to buy a
computer. With a few informal lessons,
she taught herself to use it for this project. When she considered the story
finished, a persistent voice came night after night urging her to
continue. She was persuaded when told,
"I’ll help you; we’ll do it in a dream." The resulting book, A Celestial Journey: Travels with Kirsten will
delight readers of all ages interested in the spiritual side of life.
