About the Book

Ada and Jake had no original intention of having an affair. She was on the edge of her forties and long-time married to Mike, relatively comfortable in a small town married relationship, although not up to her desired standard, good enough. Jake was an older widower, pushing sixty years of age who moved in beside Ada and Mike. Jake was an independent writer and was looking for a quiet base in a small town to settle down. He had been living in a small trailer that he pulled behind his pick-up for a number of years, and was looking for someplace stable.

Both Ada and Jake were gardeners. Their gardens were across the fence from each other, and, as friendly neighbors, they spent some time talking across the garden fence. This evolved over time to sharing a cup of coffee, visits to each other's yards, extended conversations, and getting to know each other's interests, which were pretty much parallel. Mike had a traveling job, so the two others were relatively free to grow first a deep relationship, then an infatuation, and finally a torrid love affair.

The story opens just after Mike has discovered Ada and Jake's deception. The background behind the situation is provided in flashback mode, and then the story moves on to its surprise conclusion.
