A PRETEND COWBOY
I'm a cowboy walking on dusty streets with my hands resting on my gun holster and a mean grin,
In a showdown, I am faster than any when drawing my toy gun and I win.
Yes, I will,
I shoot to chill.
Before putting my gun back, I blow the smoke rings away,
I fight Indians and dodge their bow and arrows everyday.
It doesn't matter if the Indian is my red headed brother. I pretend he's a bad guy,
And with the lights off, it's a dark western sky.
When the stillness of the dark falls and my head is resting with my hat shadowing my face,
I'm under the stars and for a cowboy like me, it's the perfect resting place.
My night sky is glow in the dark stars stuck to my bedroom ceiling,
But, that's okay. It gives me the real 'cowboy sleeping in nature' feeling.
The big rock I hide behind is a large green sofa chair,
And if I peek around, I see the Indian giving me a look saying, "BEWARE!"
My cowboy hat is on straight,
I look to see how many bullets I have left. I don't want to wait too late.
My bullets are made from a water stream,
But, it's okay to dream.
My horse is a bicycle I see across the way,
I can try and escape without being hit by my brother. The one that's pretending to be an Indian on this day.
I make a run for it and just as I get on my bike and say, "Getty-up."
I feel the plastic of his arrow on my Cowboy Butt!
A PRETEND ASTRONAUT
I take a deep breath and blow it out loudly,
Through my pretend oxygen mask, the moon up ahead I can see.
I can pretend to float,
My space suit is a pair of warm-ups and my big, thick coat.
My space boots are the water boots on my feet,
I have no crew. I have no fleet.
It is just me,
I am an astronaut and I am held down 'cause of gravity.
My spaceship is a big cardboard box,
And my space gloves are a pair of my daddy's socks.
I can experience turbulence just by the smallest movement and shake,
Rocking my body side to side even though my rocket ship is fake.
My radio is an old broken cell phone,
I like to repeat, "Houston, we have a problem." and "I am on this mission alone."
I have landed safely on the moon. The crater surface I have created with my imagination,
Behind me in the distance, my dreamy eyes visualize a make believe space station.
I open my door,
I hear my rocket motors as they roar.
I walk on the moon slowly lifting each leg carefully,
I glance down and the moon dust on my boots, I can actually see.
I smile to myself as I say into my radio, "Houston, I have landed successfully and will be home soon."
I begin my mission as a pretend astronaut, my first walk on the moon.
MY PRETEND FRIENDS
In my pink bedroom sits all my friends,
It's my favorite time to pretend.
I have a lot of friends and in my pink bedroom they await,
Each and everyone are my all day playmate.
My pretend friends have names,
And even though it's make believe, together we play games.
I have Ginger the Giraffe, Terry the Tiger, Linsey the Lion, Barks the Puppy, Purr the Kitty, and Jill my baby doll,
That is just to name a few and I pretend they hear me when their names I call.
They sometimes go with me if it's to a special place,
And they all have permanent smiles on their furry and vinyl face.
I know they're not real,
But through me, I allow them to talk and feel.
I just change my voice for each,
And I hold their arm if they wanna reach.
I know all my friends are stuffed,
And their heart and soul is made out of fluff.
But I will love them all to the very end,
'Cause they are all make believe pretend friends.
