And now the rain was hitting the huge country estate. God seemed to be bellowing his disapproval with large roars of thunder.
The lightning which lit up the night sky kept striking at the house's windows as though it was trying to get at something evil on the inside.
The lightning was also playing a weird light game as it kept volleying back and forth over the net of the large tennis court. Even the water of the Olympic-sized swimming pool was under attack by gigantic bolts of lightning that seemed to be involved in some sort of electrical diving exhibition.
The trees were not spared as they, too, kept contributing large branches and trunks to Nature's fury.
The inside of the house was completely dark as if the wickedness was hiding. And yet, the lightning provided enough short flashes of light to catch glimpses of the elegance of the home.
The restaurant-like kitchen. The huge dining room. The ballroom-sized living room. The study with enough books to start a library. The enormous executive-type desk, and behind it a large black leather chair swiveled outward toward the window.
Short puffs of smoke seemed to rise from the back of the chair -- but soon a flash of lightning momentarily lit up the room and we could see a man puffing his pipe.
His face was framed by smoke, but through the mist we could still see the strong handsome features of a man in his early fifties.
The man is Truman Alexander. He is in deep, deep thought, and yet, we can hear his thinking . . .
"How could I have done it? How could I have committed such a despicable crime? Is it really true that in every man there resides a beast? A beast so brutal it defies the laws of human nature?
"And yet, I am that beast and my crime remains unpunished; and I must take the secret of this horrendous act to my grave."

About the Author
Author Trustin Howard has compiled a very enviable list of writing credits. He has written over a thousand different episodes for television, cable, and syndication. He enjoys writing about people’s lives, and is quite proud of the fact that he was called upon by the legendary Ralph Edwards to write for the revival of the classic series This Is Your Life. Trustin has scripted and chronicled the lives of such great stars as Jonathan Winters, Phylis Diller, Hee-Haw’s Junior Samples, Andy Griffith, and the all-time legend, Bette Davis, which was one of the highest-rated shows of the television series. In this, his first novel, The 2nd Lightning, he follows the life of our teenage heroine through an eight-year span. He boldly dares to hit some very sexually explicit subjects in this writing about the trials and tribulations of young June Alexander as her life unfolds.
