His mother worked as a maid, day laborer in the fields, and as a cook for the Terrell County Board of Education. He entered the Armed Services after high school, and upon his discharge, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albany State College, Albany, Georgia. After graduation, he moved to Michigan and worked as an autoworker and insurance agent. Mr. Browner moved back to Georgia in September, 1977, where he continued to work as an autoworker. In November 1992, he purchased a guitar and began teaching himself music. On December 9, 1995, he survived a head-on collision. Once he was released from the hospital, he returned to Sasser, Georgia, the place of his birth and began writing poetry. Since that time, he has devoted most of his time to writing poems and setting them to music.
