About the Book

The main purpose of this book is to help the Senior Citizen who wants to stay in their own home during their later years. It will help the caregiver to set up an environment which will be practical, yet comfortable, to promote good health and happiness.

Having a handbook like this will get things started and could be kept on a beside table for easy reference. There are other books in libraries and bookstores, which can inform to the last detail. It would be wise to become a lifelong learner and to expand your knowledge about aging, health, nutrition, and other related studies.

This book is easily understood, with very basic instructions and suggestions. It is in easy-to-read print, and "low-fat" in content. America's national interest as humane and civilized people will be noted by the way we treat our older citizens.

About the Author

As a child, Shirley M. Davis was raised with many older relatives and friends. She was taken to visit them quite often and liked helping them and was fascinated as she listened to the stories of their lives and the world in which they lived.

After 23 years of marriage and raising her children, she worked her way through college, attending Columbus State Community College and then graduating from Capital University with a Bachelor of General Studies Degree, having completed studies in Arts and Sciences. Her studies in Nursing and Psychology/Sociology inspired her to focus on Gerontology, which led to her certification. She worked 20 years in nursing homes, hospitals, and private homes. Working for agencies, she cared for elderly persons and veterans.

She was an Activities Director in a nursing home for nine years full-time after completing her certification in that field. She has also stayed active with volunteer work for her church and civic organizations.

She continues to study oil and water color painting, horticulture, music, writing, and culinary arts, and she has enjoyed doing renovation of older homes. She continues to enjoy homemaking and her life as it is, without her husband Rex, who died from Parkinson’s disease in 1996. Rex encouraged her to publish this book.
