The Scavenger Hunt

Janie’s dreams that night were strange and ethereal. She saw people she didn’t know. They were not aware that she was watching them, and yet she felt like she was taking an active part in the dreams. She watched the nursery change and become brand new. The paint and wallpaper were fresh as if they were just put there yesterday. The toys were not rusted, nor dusty. A little blond girl sat playing by a dollhouse underneath a window. Peach curtains decorated all the windows and the sun seemed to be shining though casting such a lovely glow on the scene that was unfolding before her. Janie seemed to know that this little blond girl was JenneMae. A noise took Janie’s attention and drew her gaze to the landing leading into the nursery. A beautiful brunette woman in a long dark black dress with a white frilly blouse stood there for a moment just watching JenneMae. Janie watched as JenneMae turned and took notice of the woman. A smile lit up the little girl’s face. That smile seemed to reach all the way to JenneMae’s blue eyes, which Janie seemed to see so clearly. Such a warm scene was unfolding before her eyes. The woman had a little package wrapped up so delicately in tissue paper. The woman called, "My little JenneMae, come to me." Janie watched as JenneMae stood to her feet and ran towards this woman who must have been her mother. A smile came to Janie’s face as she watched them hug. Both sat down upon the floor and Janie watched as the package was given to JenneMae. The tissue paper was white, but not as white as the dress that JenneMae wore. In a few moments, the tissue paper was all but forgotten on the floor by JenneMae’s feet. A little golden music box is what she held. It was so beautiful; the golden ivy designs stood out in the sunlit room. Janie watched as the little note that accompanied the box was read. Hugs and kisses of thanks, such a beautiful scene to behold.
