This is why we cannot limit Acts 17: 28 to the fact that we are animated. Animals have life and the ability to be mobile, but they do not have being in the sense that humans have being. Most of what animals are able to accomplish is based on instinct, drive, and motor skills. They can also be taught through training to perform with the use of stimuli, but they are, for the most part, just equipped with what it takes to survive. Humans, on the other hand, are not limited to what comes instinctively. We are created with God-given talents and gifts. These gifts are given to be increased upon and go far beyond what is needed for our basic survival. They give us the capacity to lend to, develop, and add to society as we know it, and it is all a part of the creation package. To ignore this, we give credence to theories espoused by men like Darwin, Hitler, and Jim Crow. It perpetuates the idea of superiority and allows men to feel justified with the notion of the need for segregation, extermination and ultimately the extinction of those who are inferior to them.

Charles Thomas, Jr. is an Associate Minister at the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, MI. Born the fourth of ten children, he grew up in an environment where money was at a premium. This, along with the gang violence that was the order of the day, moved him to make decisions that caused others to count him out. Traumatic experiences that were a result of his decisions led him down a road of self-destruction, but God and the revelation of His purpose opened the door to a more excellent way. If your life is to be what you were created to be, you need to answer the question, "What Is My Purpose?"
