About the Book

I can't remember the actual first time I wrote something but I do remember always having pen and paper at my side. I would always write about the things that made me happy and the things that made me sad. I would write about dreams; then one day my journals turned into poetry. I have no particular subject that I write about just whatever comes to mind is what I write.

Peace of Mind is a title I thought would go well with this book of poems. There are so many problems in the world as well as in individual lives. I feel I have experienced many situations in my lifetime that I have gained the ability and have been blessed with this writing talent to express my feelings and thoughts that somehow may help others that can possibly relate to what I have written.

I don't expect every reader to understand every poem; but for those of you that have developed an understanding of my words and if my work has somehow helped you in making a better decision in a certain situation or just in life in general, then it has been a pleasure for me to share my work with you.

No matter the outcome, there are times in a person's life when they have to let go of what causes them pain in order to make room for happier moments. "Out with the old and in with the new."

Sharing my work is like spring cleaning-you get rid of all the old items or the things that no longer cause you happiness and you give it to someone that's less fortunate and can really use it. Life is about love, giving, caring, and sharing. I have held onto many secrets, many joyful moments, as well as many painful ones.

As I continue to write, my mind doesn't feel as boggled and my heart doesn't feel as much pain. I hope you all enjoy reading my book and I would like to thank you all in advance for your support.

About the Author

Tracy R. Offer currently resides in the Montgomery County, MD area working as an Accounts Payable Clerk for Execustay by Marriott. She spent her years growing up in Seat Pleasant, MD (born in Baltimore, MD but only spent my birth hours there.)

Poetry for Tracy is a way of relieving stress and helping her to understand more about herself (i.e., where she has been, where she is going in life). Tracy’s poetry has hit home for many readers, touched many hearts and opened many minds.

I have become a stronger person, while going through many trials and tribulations in life, just as anyone else has, but the pain and misunderstandings of others about me and my purpose in life has stuck with me for quite some time. It’s time to let it all out; this is a benefit for me. I am able to write from my own life’s experiences, listening to others and feeling the pain of others; most of all I write from the heart.

There will be many that will or will not have any interest in my writing; which is understandable. If we make an everyday effort to please others, succeeding would be a grave challenge. I have been told that I don’t live by my poems, which my poetry has nothing to do with me allowing others to disrespect me. If someone gets to me, there’s only so much I can take (just as anyone else) We can't live life with a revolving door to let others' control us or abuse our kindness. It's time to stop being ashamed for how we feel; my poetry doesn't dictate my actions in life; but it allows me to be free.

Those who really know me, understand what my poems are about, those who have judged me and my poetry by only knowing me for a short period of time-oh well, life goes on.

I am not here to live life for anyone else but me. I can’t continue to let society’s words put a hold on the things I want in life. My life is my own and yours is yours.

We spend so much time judging others whether a person is doing good or bad we still have something to say, instead of focusing own ourselves. I wonder what the world would be like if we took that same energy and tried to help feed the homeless families, helped the abused children, or even encouraged someone.

How much time would it take to say thank you? How much time would it take to say I love you?

I would like to thank God for allowing me to see a side of me that I didn’t know existed; God has really been there for me throughout my life’s experiences. I would like to thank the African-American Web site titled Timbook.tu for displaying my work, thank you to The International Library of Poetry and thank you to AuthorHouse Poetry.com, The Society of Poets for acknowledging my work and giving me my first break at publication. To all the readers who gave me their support and positive feedback, thank you and thanks to my family and friends who supported me as well. Also, I would like to thank the Directors at The Score Learning Center, Potomac, MD.

Most of all, thanks to my daughters who always keep me going and giving me something to write about.

Thank you all so much!
