Martin was getting restless, he hoped his meeting with Mr. Smith was going to come about. He didn't care what the case concerned. He understood he would take any action, pull out all the stops to get the big payoff. Martin’s office was an old two-story building, redone to perfection. Hardwood floors, vivid wallpaper in floral design, brighten the place. His wife had picked the pattern. Dupont had a staff of four, two secretaries, a partner in real estate law, and himself. Martin often worked alone at night. He had to because of all the court time during the day. Getting affidavits together, responding to other matters and the like, took time. Tonight was no different. After he finished his last motion for an access dispute, he got ready to leave. He felt Mr. Smith was either tied up or forgot about their meeting. Martin was filing some papers when he heard the buzzer. Martin could barely hold in his delight as he floated to the door to let in his new client. Realizing his pockets would be filled again, he happily opened the door. Martin often joked to others, if a criminal came up to him and asked him for his money or his wife, he would say take my wife please.
"What are you doing here?" Martin said shocked, it wasn't Mr. Smith. "I'm expecting a client. So I'm going to have to ask you to book an appointment with my receptionist, I don't have time for this tonight!"
"You are wrong. I am your appointment." The killer responded "Say hello to Mr. Smith!" the killer shouted, pulling out the double edged hunting knife, a glimmer caught the blade, shining from the hall light.
"Oh my God . . . You’re the Avenger?" Martin said puzzled by the predicament he found himself in. Martin turned and tried to run, hoping he could get to the rear entrance. He didn't get to his third step when he felt the cold steel, enter through his spine. Tearing through his back, knocking Martin down to the floor, he flipped over to hear the last words he ever would.
"Was the blood money worth it?" the killer screamed at him. "The children shall be avenged!"
Then the darkness grabbed hold of him, not letting him break free of its bondage. Martin knew he was going to die, right on his office floor.
