Pay Back

I watched as she walked out of the building toward her car in the parking lot. Her long, shapely legs taking small, graceful steps as the she moved closer to where I hid waiting. Her long brown hair, blowing in the wind, blew sort of to the left side of her face.

Linda and I had known each other for over twenty years. Now was the time, the time for her and I to get together once more.

Quietly I stepped from the cover of the bush, walked slowly to her car where she was trying to put the key into the door lock.

I waited until she had opened the door of the car, then I made a sound by clearing my throat to get her attention.

She turned around to face me, her head jerking upwards to where she could look me in the eye. "Ted! What are you doing here?" an expression of complete surprise on her face.

As soon as she had finished asking me that question, I plunged the knife that I held in my right hand into her chest. It was perfect. I felt the knife quiver in my hand as it pierced her heart.

Her eyes had that look of fear I had always dreamed of seeing in them. She tried to speak, her mouth opened, but nothing came out of it except for that low bubbling sound one makes when dying.
