CAST OF CHARACTERS
Carmen Layfield is an attractive, upwardly mobile female in her late 20s. She works for an advertising firm headquartered out of New York City. During a stint in Philadelphia, she meets the 'man of her dreams' and becomes completely consumed with forcing a relationship of commitment from him. She is obsessed with being chosen as the woman who will have long-term status in the relationship and is always ready to defend her position when presented with competition by another woman. After moving to Atlanta, she discovers an innovative method for helping her deal with the pressures of her roller coaster relationship.
Kyle Sealy is an exceptionally attractive male in his early 30s. He is a successful, enterprising attorney who is very much aware of his physical and professional attributes. His vast selection of women makes it difficult for him to commit to just one woman. His relationship with women often leaves them confused and misled, yet motivated to win him over from other petitioners.
Robbi Gant, a professional woman in her early 30s, is a central figure in the lives of both Carmen and Kyle. While she is no match for Carmen's good looks and winning personality, she manages to prevent anyone, especially Carmen, from uprooting the long-standing relationship she has with Kyle. She is Carmen's arch nemesis.
Nikki Vaughn is an attractive female in her late 20s who is a Certified Public Account in Chicago. She is Carmen's long time best friend. She is cut-to-the-chase sassy and is looking for love only from men who can support her desires for material possessions.
Linda 'Lark' Durham is a college friend of both Carmen and Nikki. She uses her God-given talent to fulfill her dream to become a professional singer. She is soon challenged by an illness that threatens her ability to share her gift forever. She ultimately serves as an inspiration to Carmen for dealing with and overcoming the obstacles and challenges of life.
Lewis is Carmen's long-time friend. He is gorgeous and gay. However, he is very in tuned to what drives behavior in relationships between people, especially with women in heterosexual relationships. His wisdom provides a revelation to Carmen about her own behavior and serves as an inspiration to her for her personal growth.

Raggedy Panties is the story about one woman's journey to self-realization. It's centered around the life of a young, upwardly mobile, nubile female, Carmen Layfield. It tells the story of her obsession with the relationship with the man of her dreams, Kyle Sealy, and the showdown between her and 'the other woman,' her arch nemesis, Robbi Gant. It goes on to depict how she deals with the constant pressures of her roller coaster relationship. She is enlightened when she is challenged to admit truthfully to herself about her own behavior in her relationships of romance. She discovers an innovative method for helping herself deal with the high expectations and pressures of society with regard to the relationships between men and women.
Many books have been published that focus on male bashing and what the male's contribution is to a demised relationship with a woman. What makes Raggedy Panties unique is that it candidly addresses the female and her undeniable contribution to a man's behavior and the outcome of her relationship with him. It exposes what females do from the outset, and beyond, to lay a foundation for disappointment in the quest for happiness with a man. In addition, Raggedy Panties offers an innovative solution for women for identifying and solving one's own emotional problems associated with a relationship of love or obsession...especially when you're just too ashamed to tell anyone else!
About the Author
Lawanda Howard is a new and emerging novelist. Raggedy Panties is her first composition. It is a composition that captures the many years of her observations and experiences with life, love and relationships.
She believes her purpose in life is to help others. Her first novel is just one of her methods for reaching out and giving back.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the world-renowned Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. She currently works as a sales executive for one of the largest companies in the world.
Lawanda is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a member of Black Women in Publishing. She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia where she is working on her second novel.
