About the Book

Michael Black writes: "This book is not only a journey through time and relationships, but it is a journey into my mind, my heart, and my life." Although the poems are generally short, they are emotional and direct. The poems here are free flowing and are intended to take you away. The book is really pure "emotion in word form" and, the author hopes, enjoyable and even inspirational. Mr. Black enjoyed his mother’s poems so much that he created the last chapter for her.

About the Author

Known in poetry circles in Dallas as "Malik," Michael Black could have easily fit right into the movie Love Jones, as he loves the open microphone format of performing poetry. He was born on April 7, 1955, in a military hospital, on what is now the campus of Nassau Community College in Long Island, New York. Michael started writing poetry in 1976 when he was just home from Morgan State University and working for Pan American Airways. Originally a graphic artist, he stopped drawing and began writing, an art form in which he found more complete expression. Michael likes to think that his poetry is "emotion driven" and any emotional high or low is fuel for his poetic fire. For fun, he attends sporting events and occasionally will shoot the basketball. He also enjoys shooting pool, bowling, playing cards, and fishing in the sea.
