About the Book

This is a fictional adventure story. It is a fast-paced romance that takes place at a time when America was filled with youthful growing pains.

Lorna and Jim meet in a time of turmoil when everything in a young America is under stress. The story takes place in the ore mines, not unlike many mine districts of America in the 'thirties and 'forties, when people lived hard and grew to appreciate the finer aspects of life.

The hardship and ill treatment so often accorded to miners during these years was commonplace. With the outbreak of World War II, it was a time of contradictions. It was a time when prison camps and political prisoners became a part of life, a period that lasted until the end of the war.

This is a story of first love beyond the imagination of the poet. It is a story that fills the heart with chime and the soul with the richness of the pure, clear cascading brook. Love is as love should be, pure as the natural state in which we are born.

For Lorna, it begins as a simple desire to escape the life of poverty in which she was living. However, it ends as the truest of loves she could have ever known.

Lorna is a typical, young, beautiful girl with high hopes, filled with the aspirations of youth.

Jim is the free spirit in quest of the true meaning of life. Having survived his own disillusionments, he returns to his hometown to look for something not available in the greater, confused and unwelcome world outside.
