(From CHAPTER THIRTEEN: OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW)
Although chemotherapy is an 'old' accepted and 'proven'? therapy, it is not a cure. It has never been proven to be safe. Chemotherapy drugs block a necessary metabolic step in the process of cell division. Cancer cells divide faster than normal cells. Thus the drugs used in chemotherapy are able to poison normal cells as well as cancer cells.
Furthermore, chemotherapy often devastates the immune system because it poisons the dividing cells of bone marrow which is the foundation of the immune system.
Once the immune system is devastated, the patient is open to deadly infections. Sometimes patients on chemotherapy die of infections while attempting to be cured of cancer. Some patients tolerate this treatment whereas others suffer projectile vomiting, baldness, toxic reactions which are severe. Some patients seem to recover then develop a new cancer a few years later. This is due to the fact that many of the drugs used in chemotherapy are carcinogens.
For a list of the drugs used in chemotherapy, you can consult pages 75 and 76 in a book which describes the drugs by trade name and common names. This list was researched and composed with the Physicians Desk Reference (P.D.R.) of 1988 as the main source.
According to the P.D.R., all drugs used in chemotherapy are poisonous. Two examples: Methotraxate can have fatal or severe toxic reactions. Interferon Alpha 28 is so toxic that patients are hospitalized in the intensive care unit so they can survive the treatment!
Since this painful therapy has not been proven a cure for cancer, why is it so widely used? Chemotherapy was a 200 million dollar a year industry until the 1980's when the amount almost tripled.
The drug companies have powerful influence in cancer treatment centers and are advisers to the National Cancer Institute!
In recent years, almost every anti-cancer drug was patented by the manufacturer despite the fact that the research was done at government supported institutions. The taxpayers were exploited again. The consumers pay for development of chemical drugs then pay exorbitant prices when they buy them.
The outrageous profits of the pharmaceutical companies explain why there is a campaign to discredit every new non-toxic, inexpensive therapy for cancer. These therapies are worth investigation even if they do not cure. If they ease suffering and prolong survival time, they deserve support.
The incredible profits for the pharmaceutical companies also explain why there has been such emphasis on a 'cure' for this dreaded disease, instead of a concerted effort to teach prevention. While profit margins rise, people die and the government agencies formed to regulate, are indifferent.
'New' therapies have been and are being developed in spite of and not because of assistance from the Sloan-Kettering Institute, the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute. These therapies are condemned without trial after phony investigations by the F.D.A.
