The pressure was almost more than he could bear. He couldn't see. He was trying to fight his way out. He was trying to. The snow was packed tightly about him. Which way was up? His hand, the hand was up above him, but he thought to himself, which way is up? Up out of the pressure and fear that surrounded him. In his right hand he still felt his grip on his ski pole. He was able to open his eyes. He was able to make out a faint impression of light somewhere. He tried moving the hand that held the ski pole. That way had to be up because, as he did, the area before him became a little lighter and he was able to see a little more. He still wasn't sure which way to go, but he knew he had to move or try to. With a desperate push, he was able to move the pole and more light appeared. His head was held in place but there was more light now. Almost in a panic state, he moved the pole as much as he could. In spite of the fact that it was lighter with each movement, he was not getting any freedom from the great pressure of the snow packed around him. The pressure was getting even greater. In a few moments, the striving to get the pole into the open wore him out. He was tired. He was cold. And then the cold started to turn into warmth. And he wasn't too cold now. It was almost time to rest. He realized what was happening and he pushed even harder, but it was useless. He was sleepy. "I'll just take a little rest--" he said to himself. "No, can't do it." He almost went to sleep. Just as his last resolve to fight was fading, a voice came to him. "You can't stop now. You can't." It was a woman's voice, saying in almost in quiet desperation, "We need you. You can't give up. I need you. Don't stop now!" He couldn't see anything. He couldn't actually hear anything, but again the voice was there, in his mind. "You can't stop now. I need you. Please!"

About the Book
Greg Warren is a successful "hack" writer, working for a paperback publisher, The People’s Press. He writes stories "on demand" but his need for a mood location often gets him into strange situations. After a bizarre experience skiing, his "boss" gives him the assignment to write a ghost story about a murdered girl and even supplies him with a suspected "haunted" house. The assignment turns out to be more than a ghost story. As it unravels, he finds that it includes threads of horror, love, and the truth of justice being served. Robert Perrelli, and his pen name alter ego, Greg Warren, wind up getting a lot more involved than "they" expected.
About the Author
George was born and raised in New Jersey. Following service in World War II, he became a teacher in New Jersey, teaching the Social Sciences in junior and senior high schools and several colleges and universities as an Adjunct Professor. He says, "I enjoyed teaching people of all ages. History and geography were merely the vehicles used to relate to people. This story has been in the writing for about ten years and at one time had several endings. Most of my friends who have read it seem to prefer this version. I thank my daughter, "Cath" Stager Kilcommons, for her assistance as editor and proofreader." After 38 years of teaching, George now makes his home in Fort Collins, Colorado.
