About the Book

Encounters David had been interested in D-Day since childhood. He was enthralled by the stories of battles and bloodshed, daring and death that occurred on the Normandy beaches. He then found out his father and uncle took part in the D-Day landings in June 1944. He wanted to walk on those beaches. What better time than in 2014, on 70th Anniversary of D-Day? Emma, David’s wife, was an avowed pacifist. She hated war and the glory and suffering it brought. However, a week in beautiful Normandy would give her a break from struggles at work and in her marriage. While there David and Emma were rocked by a number of bizarre happenings which were to change their lives for ever. By the end of the story there are so many unanswered questions that demand a sequel. “An Encounter Too Far” also written by Drake Mees, and published by Authorhouse, should satisfy those with insatiable appetites just waiting to be filled.

About the Author

Derek Ames, a retired science teacher from Onehouse, has had a book published by Amazon. Entitled ‘Encounters’, it is written under the pen name of Drake Mees. It was inspired by some bizarre happenings that took place during a holiday in Normandy in August 2013, particularly involving fishermen. It is a novel, but based on real places. Derek began to write as soon as he returned home. “I enjoyed developing the story that came to me on holiday,” he said. “I wrote for two or three hours for several nights each week and it was fascinating how the storyline just flowed.” Although he had never attempted writing a book before, Derek enjoyed the experience, with encouragement and help from family and friends.
