It was a hot and hazy day in the month of December of 1754. Will scratched away the days and months and years on a pad of cherished paper counting down a highly anticipated holiday known as Christmas. A strange, loud sound pierced the air. Scrapper, lying beside Ben, as Ben scraped fresh water oysters from their shells perked up his ears and stood upon his feet and barked. The thumping was loud now and unmistakable. It was the beating of the drums. Ben leapt up and yelled for Will but there was no need. Will came rushing out of the woods with a rabbit swinging on his belt. "Do you hear that, lad?" Will called. “Yes, oh yes, what can it mean, Will? Is someone coming at last? What do you say?” “Aye. Could be it’s a good thing, but don’t get your hopes up too high. This may be of a dangerous kind, and we’ll not show ourselves until we know. If it is a boat coming, how much of a wonder it is. Does that say that there is a nearby island? We must tread softly and carefully now and investigate the whole of it.”

About the Book
Benjamin and his old dog, Scrapper, wandered the streets of New York in the year 1849. After some time they found themselves walking away from the city and out to the country where they discover and old house far off the road hidden by many trees. The two rovers go into the house and explore all of the many rooms. Benjamin decides the old house is a good place for him and Scrapper to live, however, the biggest challenge they face is finding food. Eventually Benjamin happens to find the phantom room full of magic toys and they are fed by the hands of a mysterious yet invisible person. Each time Benjamin picks up a toy, it comes to life and a new adventure begins.
About the Author
Elaine was born in 1937, in a little gray clapboard house in Alabama. Her father assisted the doctor with her birth. She was followed by two brothers. The oldest brother, James Ellis, was discovered to be totally deaf by the time he was two years old. He died when he was twelve years old with nephritis, commonly called Bright’s disease. Her youngest brother was born seven years and one day after her birthday. He is still living today in Mobile, Alabama, and is the father of two sons (one is deceased) and two daughters; he is also a grandfather of two boys and two girls. She has been married for fifty-two years to Luis, and they are the parents of four sons and five daughters and are the grandparents of twenty-five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
