Colorless

Though I know it’s risky, I close the door. The fire grew in those few seconds that my back was turned, and I can feel sweat dripping down my face. The hot air is burning my face while the smoke invades my lungs, leaving me without a chance to take a breath. I take a few steps towards the fire, but it feels as if I am walking into an inferno. How can I continue like this? My heart beats very fast, and begins to feel as if it’s trying to run out of my body and save itself. It begins to hurt more and more, but the only thing I focus on is the strong beats being created. It’s almost like a pattern--a soft, then strong beat. The soft beats get softer, and the strong beats get stronger until I begin to lose consciousness. Thump! Everything turns white as my body burns into a crisp. There’s a tree in my peripheral vision, and I make sure to look at it. At first it is blurry, but I focus on it, ignoring the prickling of my skin.
