I sat there rocking and looking. I looked down that long dirt road. I was looking for my papa. I knew that he would be coming to get me any day now. If I would sit and rock he would certainly come back home and we would be a family. For the first time we would be a regular family. I would have a papa, just like the rest of the children that lived on that dirt road nestled in the woods. When I was school age, I left the rocking chair and replaced it by sitting at the window and watching the children- most of them my friends walking to school. I was sitting at that window wishing that I was walking to school with all of them.

About the Book
The title for this book was inspired by the love and protection that mothers should give to their children. Like mama birds protect and teach their young, the human race should do so much more for their children. The love and protection of a family can last a lifetime. For Sarah, that love would be tried and tested through the years with a stepfather whose physical and emotional abuse of her beloved mother would bring them to the brink of hatred. She lived with a longing to be a little girl with a real father and a passion to read like most of her friends. You will see that the simple things in life are at times taken for granted, and “the simple things” should be remembered and cherished every day.
About the Author
Eugenia G. Crenshaw is a graduate of Mercer University with a degree in social science. She is a firm believer of stories with a message that impact life for the better. She’s also a strong believer in education, self-help, and continuing education through reading and application. She enjoys writing short stories designed for people who love to read but lack the time for long novels. She truly believes the Bible passage “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6
