At my local pharmacy establishment, I inquired about shaving creams and double-edged safety razors. In private and in a hushed tone I explained to the older male Pharmacist that my father had passed away when I was young and asked if he could explain the basics of shaving with a double edged razor. Feeling confident (with myself) I purchased one of each item, and rushed home to experience my first shave. Lathering my face was easy enough. “Oh!” I whispered to myself as I gently glided the safety razor down my left cheek to the bottom of my jaw. “Aww…” I whispered a little louder as I completed shaving the left side of my face and began to shave the right side. “Ouch!” I spoke out loud as I was shaving under my chin and down my throat. “Shaving hurts!” I thought to myself, as I looked at my facial appearance in the mirror (that was attached to the washroom medicine cabinet). “What the hell!” I exclaimed as I first noticed little spots of blood in the reflection of the mirror. I had (what appeared to be) a few small ‘nicks and cuts’ on my face. No doubt caused by and inflected by the so-called ‘safety razor’. I rinsed my face with warm water, removing what shaving cream that was left. I also applied five little pieces of torn toilet-paper to the ‘nicks and cuts’ on my face. A few moments later I gently removed the five pieces of torn toilet paper and applied a sample of my brother’s aftershave to my face. Huge mistake…! Removing the cover from the bottle, I sniffed the liquid contents. It had a nice scent. I sprinkled some of the aftershave into my left hand. I then mixed both my hands together and slowly began face tapping both my cheeks, my chin and my throat (spreading the aftershave and rubbing it evenly across the pores of my nicked and cut face). Again, huge mistake…! “Yaaaaooooooow…” I screamed. I had never, ever, experienced a tingling, irritating, stinging, burning face on fire sensation like that before. Taking a deep breath and mustering all my courage, I continued to apply and rub the aftershave to my face. “Ouch, Ouch, Ouch…”
