Wade felt like a little boy having a bad dream. He had looked forward so much to coming home. His father had worked for years breeding Tennessee Walkers. Blue Eagle was his father's pride and joy. He remembered his father saying, "We now have a stallion with everything, conformation, gait, and the heart of a champion."
"That Yank wants to geld Eagle, make a parade horse out of him." Jess had shared his father's dream, to breed the greatest smooth gaited horse in all Tennessee. He had worked beside him and had taught Wade all he knew about horses.
"I have to get Blue Eagle and get away from here." Wade did not know how, but he knew he must try to carry on what his father started.
