“I can’t keep up,” I said walking behind the desks to mine on the opposite side. “Take off anything that you know’s closed. Just leave up the Joe Pastore case.” I wanted to know more about the case considering I was there. “There’s a cigarette taken from the scene. You wanna see it,” Kyle asked noticing my interest. “Just one,” I said pulling my chair away from my desk so I had room to sit. “No, Chuck’s notes say more were at the scene, but only one was picked up.” Kyle handed me a zip-lock bag with a cigarette butt in it. “Apparently, someone snuffed out the others making them useless.” Sorry Chuck. That was me. I watched as Kyle dry washed off the notes on the board. Eventually Joe Pastore and the cheating husband were the only cases remaining. I sat behind my desk sorting out papers. I was throwing almost everything out. It was old news now. “Kyle, you get a newspaper on your way in?” “Yeah, I picked up the Daily and the Post. I think I left them in my car. I’ll get ‘em?” “No, if you left them, don’t worry about it. Maybe Chuck’ll bring them.” I continued to go through the articles on my desk. I hated the mess. I put my garbage pail next to my desk and slid my arm across the papers causing them all to fall. I sat back in my desk letting out a sigh of relief.
