I felt that the only guest we’d neglected this week was Adam Rizzio, but he didn’t seem to want to mingle with the rest of us. That may prove to be a good thing. I was pretty certain that he had been out in the rain all day. I heard his boat go out about 7:00 this morning and I still hadn’t heard it come back. Why does he pretend to be fishing? He has no bait and has never asked Joe or Evan to clean any fish. The net he brought still has plastic on it and the price tags are hanging on his fishing poles. I just don’t understand. Joe now thinks Adam may be CIA or a terrorist. The teenagers think he’s a drug dealer, cooking Meth out on the island. Ken and Jack agree with all our neighbors who believe he’s a pervert. Now they have forbidden Carol and Wilma to go anywhere near Cabin #1. Tom still thinks that Mr. Rizzio has a woman stashed somewhere; probably a mistress. ‘The Boys’ have decided that he is either Mafia or hiding from the Mafia. The women now believe he is just lonely and is mending a broken heart. Jay Connors thinks he should be locked up but isn’t sure why. I’m not sure what he is, but I know one thing; his soul has been destroyed by someone or something. I’ve never seen such dead eyes; past sad, past defeated, dead. I don’t know whether to pity him or fear him.

About the Book
Wilderness Retreat is a small rustic resort in Northern Minnesota with guests that are mainly families and fishermen. The owners, Edy and Joe Clarke treat their guests like old friends and are disappointed and confused when one of their guests doesn’t want any part of the fun and camaraderie the others share. Who wouldn’t want to watch bears at the dump, sing karaoke, or listen to Polka music? Adam Rizzio came to the resort wearing dress slacks, a white shirt, five o’clock shadow and an attitude. He’s tall, dark and dangerous looking. With new fishing gear, he goes out in his boat each day, but no one believes for a moment that he is a fisherman. Where does he go; what does he do all day out on the lake? Everyone back at the lodge has a theory including, Joe’s best friend Sheriff Tom Walker. Can Adam Rizzio actually catch a fish on a hook without bait?
