Harden's Shadows Three hundred years ago, the beginning of Harden's in America, was when Grandparents began to share their life threatening stories and humorous tales with each generation. The child is left with the historical significance of the struggle for life, and where they began to form their own shadow: "Become 'dissatisfied' until every person in the rain could be happy with life." "To a child every shadow disappears or does it?" On a worn bench behind the barn, the 3rd generation Harden shares with his grandson, " I had nothing left and did not know how far I had come, but knowing death was down, and life was up, I chose life." And heed Grandpa's advise, "You have to do it, I was always wishing for more money, a better job, always complaining, but I didn't do anything about it." Whether on a back porch seeing the rising moon, or in the kitchen with freshly baked berry pie: "You cannot run with wolves and not become one." "You must walk on your own legs. That is what you do in life." "Remember take care of your horse, it is the best protection you may have in the forest someday." For our generation: " A large part of him will be with us always, even if he becomes a mere shadow of what we perceive of him." "When you are about to lose something special, you hold it tighter."
