Overcoming Rejection

Introduction ……For me, the root of rejection didn’t come solely from lack of affection I received from my parents; it also came from the accuser, Satan, telling me God didn’t love me, which ultimately produced fruit of promiscuity, rebellion, insecurity, fear, and a very opinionated attitude to say the least. For all of my childhood and most of my adult life, I believed Satan. Even after God saved me, I questioned His love for me because I was basing it on man’s conditional love. If I was receiving tangible blessings from God, He loved me. But when I was going through trials or tribulations, God didn’t love me or He was mad at me…so I thought. But that was far from the truth. The accuser had been deceiving me for years, and it wasn’t until I received the truth of God’s love, that I was able to receive His Agape (unconditional) love and gain victory over rejection. John 8:32 NKJV says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” And the truth is — absolutely nothing can stop God from loving us. The victory is in receiving the love of God. That revelation came to me when I realized that NOTHING could stop God from loving me. Even if I experience a test or trial, He still loves me. I can be sure of that. As you read my life story, you will be able to see how that spirit held me captive. However, in spite of what the enemy did, God had a plan for me and He has a plan for you too. Chapter One ….A couple of years passed by and a new family moved to the corner house in the neighborhood, the Johnson family. They had seven children: three teenage sons and a teenage cousin they had custody of, a daughter and two smaller children. Slowly the new kids blended in and became a part of our neighborhood family. There was something different about these boys. Although we were allowed to stay out late, most of us were inexperienced. We hadn’t yet entered into the realm of drinking (except for the sips our parents would grant us if we asked on a good day), smoking and things of that nature. Sure there was that incident with Brandon, but that was a one-time thing. These guys were more advanced than our crew. We were playing “grown-up”, they were actually living it. These boys were experienced. I was eleven years old now and my body had begun to fill out. My breast had grown, my legs were thick and I could have passed for a thirteen year old. So it was easy for me to lie about my age and be believed. As we played and became more familiar with one another, I took a liking to one of the Johnson brothers – the middle one, Bam Bam. I was the neighborhood papergirl and every day I would pass by their house as I delivered my papers and almost every day he would say something to flatter me. Young and immature, I fell right into Satan’s trap. Everyone knew I liked him. It was no secret. He was the cutest! His flattery lured me right into his bedroom. He suggested I come over to his house during school hours to be with him. Again, I agreed. My normal travel to school was by city bus because we had moved from our apartment complex and the school bus service wasn’t available. My mom hadn’t transferred my sister and me to the school in our area yet. My sister was in the first grade and this was my last year in elementary and I wanted to finish it there, so my sister and I caught the city bus back and forth to school. We caught it from the corner of our street and it dropped us off directly in front of the school. I had to pass Bam-Bam’s house everyday and that’s how he knew I caught the bus to school. He suggested that I take my sister to school and come back and spend time with him. I didn’t waste much time planning. Within a couple of days I was arranging to skip school at his house…
