About the Book
With a cast of nine (5 males / 4 females), this is the 25th -anniversary edition of Christofer Cook’s 2002 stage adaptation of Washington Irving’s beloved novella. This more streamlined version features all the atmosphere and action of the original, yet with simpler sets, minimalist staging, and easier-to-produce demands. The year is 1795. Our story revolves around the God-fearing souls who share cautionary tales of ghosts and goblins, a favorite being that of a Hessian soldier who is believed to have been beheaded by cannon fire. A stranger’s arrival presages unusual events when Ichabod Crane, a journeyman schoolmaster, takes up residence in the quaint village. The play ends on an exciting finale of drama, including swordplay, abduction, the undead, and a culminating mystery. Perfect for professional, regional, community, and high school theatre companies.
