About the Author

Ms. Moore has been a high school teacher and informal educator in the subjects of biology and ecology for over twenty-eight years. During her teaching career she won the Disney Innovative Teacher of the Year Award and numerous others related to the development of the understanding of man’s interaction and effect upon his environment. She has been involved with the Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival’s annual event for over five years. From around the age of five, Ms. Moore was introduced to the wonders of birds and began to identify and observe their behavior in the yards and woods surrounding her home. She first observed the American Redstart on a family lunch at a local park where she spotted the small bird flitting through the tropical foliage. The momentary glimpses of red flashing through the lush greenery began a longtime interest in the bird. Ms. Moore was born in Alabama and grew up in Orlando, Florida. She moved to the Florida Keys and resided on a sailboat for many years while traveling the Caribbean Islands. She eagerly awaits the fall and spring migration to catch a glimpse of the American Redstarts as they travel through the island chain.
