Chapter 1
1.2 WITH JESUS AS COCA-COLA'S GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR, HOW MANY BOTTLES OF THE BEVERAGE WOULD YOU BUY PER DAY?
Jesus was no religious guy; He was only a man of faith who held the ideals of His faith the highest esteem. He's some cool guy, fun-to-be-with, generous, compassionate, patriotic, faithful and righteous.
If He was some boring piece, close to know one would have followed Him on the cyber space like Twitter, MySpace, Facebook or Blackberry community, talk less of following Him physically in thousands like He had them follow Him.
So, if He had lived in a time such as our day, He would have still been relevant. He would have worn jeans trousers, toms or snickers, customized T-shirts. He would have used iPad, Android, Blackberry, iPhone or the American spec- HTC. He would have tweeted and post stuffs on facebook like no other, after all, He is the Word, what to tweet or post would have- for Him- not made the list of issues. He would not have made or break record of the highest followership on twitter; He would have shattered the records because He would have had at least a billion people following him (if He had threatened to close his account on the blog, twitter would have come begging Him with millions of US Dollars because just being present on the blog means a viable platform to reach His billion people fan base with the marketing messages of product and corporate brands. And on the other hand; that will be almost more than the whole population of twitter).
That's the guy that brand managers, custodians, and marketing directors would have recommended to the board as they go on logger heads to be the one to sign Him as brand ambassador. It would have been so serious that, like it has never been done before; rival brands would have agreed to share Him as brand ambassador because each would have had its balance sheet or bottom line affected for good like never before.
Here is another possibility with Jesus as a celebrity endorser: many would have religiously bought more of whatever product or service that He endorses, (more than they need), as a way of contacting more of His value propositions like healing, salvation, posterity, riches and the rest especially when the brand custodians take advantage of that in their marketing messages. Just because He lends His credibility to help drive the brand's market, His followers would have bought the company's product (say a bottle of Coca-Cola) everyday. And if each buys at least two bottles of the beverage (if not for any other reason, at least for the sake of contacting solution for everyday problems. After all, someone once believed so much in the potency of the power He carried, that all she sought was to touch the helm of His garment. What goes into the belly must carry more power- someone would have thought), and a bottle costs 50cents, the Coca-cola company would have made a $1b a day and $365b a year.
Not only that, the company whose offering He endorses would have also recorded equity gain because in the day a celebrity agrees to endorse a brand, an equity swap occurs. In other words, the company's corporate image becomes almost as healthy as His.
Furthermore, churches are about the biggest crowd you can find anywhere, and there's only one personality/brand to whom, it is believed, everyone has gathered to buy into; Jesus.
This right here is an argument that spreads its legs- one to the scriptural truth and the other to the professional logical reasoning side of the divide. Now, based on the legend of Jesus in the scriptures, He is referred to, with many words- noun and adjectival phrases. Some of them are wonderful councilor, the way, the truth, the light, the door, the Word of God, etc. Predicating the point on the last noun phrase, the scripture says that He's the word of God which became flesh and dwelt amongst men. In other words, the Word came down in the likeness of flesh with all the attributes of man except sin. And God avoided making the whole thing look like one abracadabra enterprise by ensuring that He was conceived and born by a mortal woman, He grew from a baby to an adult, He ate, slept, wept, did family business, He had feelings (once had a fear), and if it was part of His destiny to get married- He would have had sex which is probably the height of carnality. All these are human attributes. So, my point is: while He was physically present here, Jesus paired both as 100% divinity and 100% humanity.
This is a mystery that many are yet to be in bed with. Try preaching Jesus to some average Jewish guy and he would tell you that He is a Jewish brother. To some of them, up till date, He's just some great guy that once lived like a Rosa Park or a Martin Luther King Jnr. to a black American- they don't see Him beyond that. Do you know why? It's because while He was here on earth, He lived just as a man, and history captured it. Having established the fact that He lived on earth for thirty-three meaningful and fulfilled years that accounted for pretty much, how did He weigh and amount to so much on the scale and graph of relevance that:
• His birthday i.e. Christmas is the world's most widely celebrated event
• His biography
