When I was about nine months old it snowed outside on Christmas Day. I didn’t know what snow was, but I was determined to investigate the “white stuff” all over the ground. My siblings and I had discovered a gap between the fence and the gate which we had taken to escaping through to the backyard. Mum was just getting ready to leave for a family Christmas brunch and I zipped through her legs and ran straight to our escape route and into the backyard. The “white stuff” was very cold and wet but I hardly noticed as I ran. Shortly, mum followed and called to me to come back inside. I wasn’t ready to go back in and hid behind a big tree. As she spotted me, the chase began. I just kept running round and round the tree in a circle and it seemed to be working - she couldn’t catch me. I heard her mutter, “Bently, if we keep going like this we’re gonna make ice cream! And, you’re making me late!” Yeah, I may have made her a little late (and no ice cream), but I received my first lesson in “reverse psychology.” Mum stopped chasing me and turned to head back to the house, saying she was going to leave now and I could just stay out and play all I wanted. Zooooommmmm – I speed toward the door with reckless abandon arriving just as she reached for the door handle. Whew! Barely made it. After she left and having had time to ponder the episode, I realized I had responded to what amounted to a bluff. I knew she never would have left me out in the cold. I made a mental note about that reverse psychology stuff, licked my paws dry and took a long nap. - Bently

About the Book
This book is “co-authored” by eighteen dogs, all of whom have lived with the author at one time or another. The dogs lend a unique perspective into their behaviors, adventures, illnesses, accidents and humorus episodes. Animal lovers will appreciate their mindset and the knowledge that all of their stories are true. The “chorus” in this book touts the theme of helping animals in need to achieve safe and loving homes. In direct correlation to this endeavor, it has been necessary to adjust pricing of this book higher than normal in order to accommodate productions expenses and have funds left over to donate to some of the many rescue groups and no-kill shelters. Your understanding is greatly appreciated. To begin with, donations will be made to these local and national groups: Horse Creek Wildlife Foundation (no-kill preserve), The Street Dog Foundation (a rescue group), The Mid-South Spay and Neuter Clinic (a low-cost facility), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Rachel Ray’s Rescue.
About the Author
Jean Morrow Faulkner grew up in Memphis, Tennesee. She attended the Univeristy of Tennessee Knoxville where she majored in journalism. While in Knoxville, she worked as a freelance photographer and writer for Associated Press, United Press International and several local newspapers. Returning to Memphis in the mid-eighties, she began a new career in floral design, eventually owning her own florist for eleven years. She continued her love of writing and photography and has now combined them with her love of animals. It is her sincere hope this book will lend support to many animals in need.
