The Adventures of Pine Cone the Cat

Then the man with the fuzzy face took little Pine Cone into the cabin next door. He built a fire in the wood stove. The fire felt so good on Pine Cone’s black, furry coat. Then, the nice man shared some of his food with little Pine Cone. That night Pine Cone the cat slept beside the nice man with the fuzzy face inside of his sleeping bag. Pine Cone couldn’t remember ever being so happy. The next day, the nice man drove his truck into the little town of La Pine and bought a great big bag of cat food for Pine Cone and his mom and dad. Pine Cone’s parents weren’t so friendly to the man. They were a little afraid of him. So, the friendly man with the fuzzy face left most of the food inside the old cabin for them. But Pine Cone ate his cat food in the cabin next door with the nice man. He played with the man during the day and slept in the sleeping bag with the nice man at night. Pine Cone had found a real friend. One day it was time for the nice man with the fuzzy face to leave the cabin where he had been staying and go back to his home in the city. Pine Cone didn’t know what to do. Should he stay with his mom and dad? Or, if the nice man would take him, should he go with the man to the big city? As the nice man got into his truck to go home, Piney watched. The man stopped, bent down and asked, “Do you want to go home with me, little guy?” Pine Cone said, “Meow.” Then the man scooped up little Pine Cone, stepped up into his truck, and placed Pine Cone on his lap. Pine Cone meowed his good-byes to his mom and dad. Then they started off on their long drive to the big city.
