Drug money is stolen directly from our hard-working citizens. It is the currency that results from the theft of your identity or the burglary to your car, or the mugging of your daughter or robbing of your local bank, or the theft from your local store that inflates the bill of your next grocery trip, your insurance, and your taxes to pay for law enforcement to respond to a crime that could have been prevented by the interdiction of the drug supply before it even arrived on your street corner. By educating our men and women in blue with ethical information and tactics, the financial opportunities for local government are endless. Forfeiture of drug proceeds is the essence of law enforcement since cash is the entire driving force behind the drug trade. The application of the seized cash awarded to law enforcement is generally at the discretion of police administrators. While some take a more conservative approach in interpreting the forfeited currency usage laws, others use it liberally, annually saving their tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars by self-supporting a percentage of the services they provide. I have heard many police administrators argue, “it's not that easy. I don't have the manpower. I don't have the resources. It's not our priority.” In response, it is essentially “that easy.” Our forefathers and tens-of-thousands of police officers in their wake have shown this to be an effective means of eradicating massive amounts of illicit drugs from our streets and collecting millions of dollars in narco-proceeds.
