Jessie Jacobs Chapter One I sat there staring at the old, slightly torn leather bound diary that lay on my lap and the multitude of paperwork scattered all over my desk. I had received the diary and other paperwork and a huge lever arch file via special delivery this morning. It was all part and parcel of one of my new allocated cases. This diary was like nothing I've ever seen before. It was about the size of a hardback novel and without closer observation it could have been mistaken for one. Its soft, leather covers were a stained tan and brown color and I noticed that a series of strange symbols ran along the spine of the book. I had basic knowledge of Egyptology, but found it difficult to decipher these strange symbols the front cover. There was no other writing as such on the front of the book, but I did notice the strange golden snake-like creature that formed the clasp that secured the book. I should have been used to these cases and their strange accompaniments by now, but there was something extremely unusual about this diary, something different. I gazed at its markings and inscriptions as lay in my lap. But when, I picked it up it seemed to give off a strange vibration, almost like an energy drawing me in. A sudden cold chill ran through me, causing me to quickly drop the diary on the windowsill beside me. My coffee or was it tea, I can't remember and it doesn't really matter now, because it was stone cold, sat in my cup untouched. My eyes burned as I tried to stave off sleep. I knew I needed to get to bed as I had an early start in the morning.....
