elevator in corduroy wind,
helium balloon in mid-air,
aeroplane aerofoil,
zeplane autopilot,
a crest of heralding air
in a ragged flux disregard.
i episode,
my skin tensing,
my tingling skin ebbing.
an updraft beneath my feet,
airborne,
moving but trapped,
flying but never arriving.
a Buddhist monk,
levitating,
Zen.
this butterfly transient experience,
this absolute unconscious awareness,
this hummingbird redemption song,
this hovercraft,
this karma,
an episode within an episode,
a shivering apple,
pale and ripe,
an illusionist uncertain on a branch,
a winter chill and springs welcome,
a transient air current
driffting deeper within my mind...
i am an updraft.

joseph byrne resides in the west of Ireland. he attended Galway university. on his book shelf you will find Paul Muldoon, Matthew Sweeney and Leonard Cohen. This, his ' original collection of poetry' is said to set the working class standard.
