She squeezed his hand. "Thank you for bring me here." As they waited the colors of the sunset began to fan out across the sky. Pinks, greys, oranges, yellows, blue. Fluffy white clouds, outlined in blue with the golden halo surrounding, sparked a never before experienced feeling of awe in Cassie. She came to her feet in admiration drawn by the desire to reach her hands up and touch the magnificence. She drank in the beauty of the moment. Kelly viewed the sky with a different set of emotions as he watched the unfolding of an unexpected occurrence. The panorama now visible in the southwest produced instant alarm as the realization hit him. Deep black rolling clouds moved fiercely across the sky. Immediately they spread out obliterating part of Cassie's sunset. It was the angry black whirling mass in the clouds that took his breath away and sent icy fear to his heart. He grabbed her hand and the oil cloth and the bag. "Come on, Sandie, we have to get out of here now!" She stared in fascinated horror as a row of houses off in the distance vibrated and blew apart just as if they had been dynamited. The row of houses across the street from and the row of houses behind the demolished ones stood untouched by the disaster. What moments ago had been a nature showstopper had quickly turned ugly. Huge cold rain drops pelted down on them as Kelly guided her across the bluff top. Winds of gale force hit them from behind buckling their knees, making it almost impossible to keep their footing. Her breath was coming as hard and fast as his. "We have to get down," he yelled at her. "Find something to hang on to...and hang on tight." His last words were lost in the wind as Cassie felt the force pull her hand out of Kelly's and send her flying through the air gasping for breath. The next thing she knew she was bounced to the ground on her stomach just behind a jagged tooth shaped rock sticking up from the ground. She cringed at what sounded like a freight train coming up behind her. She crossed her arms over her forehead to protect the face while pulling her upper arms in tight to her ears to shut out the noise as she rolled over on her back just in time to see the swirling cloud lift up and go over her. She rolled back over and grabbed hold of the rock for dear life. That was when she realized that Kelly was not at her side. Panicked she screamed, "Kelly! Where are you?" Kelly tried to keep his hold on her as his fingers bit into Cassie's arm. The power of the wind took a sudden increase. She had broken loose and was gone before he was able to react. Face down he clawed into the dirt for control as he heard her shreak above the din. Through the pouring rain she heard his welcomed voice. "Over here. Hold still. I'll come to you." With relief she made out his dark shadow as he inched along the ground. "This way! This way!" she called trying to give him a voice signal to follow through the howling wind. She used the rock to pull herself to her feet as he got to her. The torrential rains had dumped a huge amount of water on them and had she stayed on the ground, drowning could have been a concern. "We can't go back the way we came," he yelled. "We will have to go down the face of the bluff. Once we get over the edge at least it will give us a little protection from the wind." Kelly moved away expecting her to follow. Cassie stopped. The rain had slacked off. It was the lessening of the pounding rain that allowed her to hear the whistling and made her turn to face what was behind her. She froze, mesmerized by the whirling black blob that was pulsing several hundred yards away and growing bigger as it came hurtling toward her. Instinctively, and with calm serenity, she put her hand out in front of her, palms facing the mass. "Stop!" she commanded. The world went silent around her.
