Periodicals Through Time

I love my mother. We were very, very close while I was growing up. I was nominated for poet of the year 2003 through the International Society of Poets for this poem. Mother, A Friend of Mine The woman behind her strength was a woman weary from many years of toil Providing for her loved little ones no credit did she hear The years still had been kind Her eyes still shined with love The only encouragement did she hear was from God up above From a girl of my childhood to a woman of my youth You've imparted so much wisdom, so many truths You've wiped away my painful tears Been more than a mother throughout the years A friend is the perfect label for that mother of mine For she bears a sweet name for me –Mother, A Friend of Mine Memories of each night as I lay my head to rest Teaching me to be prayerful to be guided to what is best No notion of unlovingness from thy arms of her sweet embrace A home is just what she made for me No longing or roaming to another place Sadly her little angels grew up with each passing day Love and admiration remain for the teaching of Christ's ways Forever I will be grateful for the wings you gave me to soar For I know in heaven there must await a crown with jewels to even the score
