About the Author
Notes on the poet Alina Mildred Treis (Pereira) born in Zanzibar is of Portuguese and Indian descent. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, where she completed her Senior Cambridge High School and then went to Goa India to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and French. She came to the States in February 1971 as an exchange student at St. Rose College, Albany, NY. She married Terry Treis on May 1st 1976 and has two children Richard and Tania. In 1981, as a young mother, she earned a Masters degree with University at Albany, NY. In 2004, she completed her PhD in English Literary Theory from the same university. Her dissertation is on Rebecca Harding Davis. She has been a professor of English and literature since 1990 and is now working as a full time Associate Professor in Humanities at Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, NY. Over the years, Treis has had several publications of her individual poems in Anthologies. The poems compiled in this book are written over a period of several years and reflect emotional ties in Zanzibar, Africa; Goa, India; and New York, US. Treis writes emotional poems embedded in nature.
