This book offers insight into engineering careers. With it, the reader may gain a better understanding about a possible career as an engineer, including preparation that will serve in the process. The book offers a number of different engineering career opportunities, looking at specialities and cross-specialty opportunities. The book also provides insight into areas infrequently covered within the college curriculum, such as technical writing skills, presentations, career mentors, ethics, and intellectual property. The book could be a handy reference text for career counselers in high school, college, and industry.
About the Author
Ray Floyd holds a BSEE from Florida Institute of Technology, an MSEE from Florida Atlantic University, and a PhD in Industrial Management from California Coast University. Spent 26 years with IBM, retiring as a Senior Engineer. During his career, worked in the APOLLO Space Program, the SAFEGUARD Anti-ballistic Missile program, product development, product test, and other special areas. After retirement, founded a consultancy, with specialization in radio-frequency identification. Has published more than 150 papers with topics ranging from technical matters to poetry. He has published three books, all on non-technical materials. He is married and lives in Cody, Wyoming, where he enjoys writing articles, technical editing and/or writing for specific events, and hiking mountain trails. Mr. Spencer has a BSEE from the University of Southern California. He has over 45 years of industrial experience in product testing and management, human factors engineering, information transfer and technical writing instruction. He has authored two books on product and usability assurance, as well as having done special order publication writing. He has also acted as a consultant, editing for clarity to user populations, and as a university adjunct professor of product testing.
