About the Author

The author was raised on a farm and has never gotten away from her love of animals and living the simple life close to nature. After a delay of many years she has begun to put her college English major to good use. She has been published twice in "The Alaska Magazine," several times in the Middleton Gazette and in various religious publications. As an instructor, she teaches classes on beginning photography and graphic design using PhotoShop, and tutors both young people and adults individually or in group settings. Joan has lived an adventurous life ranging from commercial fishing to dairying to operating a Bed and Breakfast. Through it all, her camera was a constant companion and motivation for camping trips in bear country and other backwoods expeditions. She and her husband lived in Alaska for 25 years and are now spending their golden years in North Idaho where photographic opportunities abound. Wildlife is her priority, but domestic animals, birds, flowers and scenery are all subjects of interest.
