Using anecdotes and quotations from contemporary sources, this book attempts to revive the passions, fears and emotions of those involved while simultaneously outlining the campaigning that took place during this largely unjustifiable war. The fiecely independent minded farmers of New England, the party-going folk of Pennsylvania, the quayside merchant determined to make his living and the redcoat -all wish their stories to be told. Their deeds, their ambitions and their aspirations have contributed to the framework upon which today's American society is based.

About the Author

The beautiful New Forest and the chalklands of Wiltshire, the historic area of S.England in which Tony has lived for the last thirty years, have been responsible for igniting an unquenchable passion for history. Every village and ancient byway has a story to tell, and it was the desire to learn their hidden secrets that led him into writing two books on the English Civil War. Until he retired in 2005, the author lectured in a Southampton college. Since retiring, his interests have evolved to cover a far wider field of writing - Britain's wars in North America. This volume is the first of a trilogy on the subject of those wars.
