hese specially designed women's bible studies are intended to increasingly move women toward Jesus Christ as our “Supreme Treasure”; strengthen and heal our ailing womanhood, build our flawed character, and develop our untapped leadership potential and organizational skills.
The Vision, of which these bible studies constitute but the first step, is to create community among women which is God-centered, Jesus -driven and Spirit-empowered. Community, which is not afraid to deal with difficult relational issues, in our home, church and society! A movement which offers truth and transformation, love and forgiveness, community and caring!
The overall goals are to promote a redemptive view of biblical womanhood by helping women to be wise and knowledgeable homemakers, professionals and servant leaders; to mobilize and organize and train Christian women to reclaim our partners, children and communities for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ; and to minister to hurting women through the provision of biblically-based healing experiences and encounters.
This first publication includes five bible studies, namely: 1. The Samaritan Encounter; 2. A Healing Touch; 3. Look to Jesus - Daughters of Abraham; 4. Awake, Awake, Deborah…and lead; 5. Life in the Sheepfold. Each bible study stands on its own and may be studied in whatever order the user desires.
A variety of bible study styles have been used. The first three utilize reflection/discussion/application questions on particular themes drawn from the Scripture passage. Bible Studies 4 and 5 begin with an introduction to each lesson, followed by specific scriptural references relating to the topic, for a five day period. The intent is that each lesson from the five studies would be covered in a week. If this plan is followed this series could be completed in a year.
The Samaritan Encounter based on John, Chapter 4: 1-42, is the well-known and well-loved story of Jesus' meeting with the `notorious' Woman of Samaria. Sixteen portraits of womanhood are highlighted and God's response through Jesus Christ to each of those portraits is explored. This is covered in sixteen lessons.
A Healing Touch, described in three of the four Gospels (Mark 5:25 -34; Matthew 9: 20-22; Luke 8: 43-48) tells the poignant story of a woman who reached out and touched the Lord as He passed by and was immediately healed for her faith. This bible study is offered in eight lessons.
Look to Jesus, Daughters of Abraham, a bible study in fourteen lessons is taken from Luke 13:10-17. In this study, Jesus, moved with compassion, invites a sick and oppressed woman to come to him for healing and freedom. It is the kind of invitation all women seek.
Awake, Awake, Deborah…and Lead! This short bible study taken from Judges 4 and 5 is written especially for women leaders. It describes one of history's most renowned female leaders. Women leaders have much to learn from the life of Deborah, prophetess, wife and judge. This study comes in six lessons.
Life in the Sheepfold: The Twenty-Third Psalm. One of the most used psalms in Scripture - loved by women as we liken ourselves to straying and rebellious sheep desperately needing a shepherd. Here the Lord God is our Shepherd. This bible study was the first one written and though not primarily written for women is included because of women's traditional love for the 23

About the Author
oan Purcell has been a practicing evangelical Christian for the past thirty-three years. She has served in various areas of Christian ministry - Sunday School Teacher/Trainer, Youth Camp Coordinator, Church Administrator and Board Trusteeship. Presently she is an Executive member of the Women's Ministries of her local Assembly and Chairperson of the Grenada branch of the Women's Commission of the Evangelistic Association of the Caribbean/World Evangelical Alliance. On the community level, she has ministered widely to youth and women through teaching, training and mentoring. Joan Purcell has also been involved in public office for the past twenty years and has written and published a book (Memoirs of a Woman in Politics:Spiritual Struggle, 2008). She hosts a daily television devotional, "Times of Refreshing".
