Oscar and Milly

Chapter 2

 I am wide awake at 5 am and Ricky is too. Obviously we have different reasons. He is excited and I am dreading how my life and ultra clean house is about to change. He has assembled a cage but I wonder if it will be too hot for a puppy to sit in since today it is forecast to be 75 degrees. However he does have a cunning plan! Towels and sheets to cover the cage. Hmm! I ask  “What time are we going to pick Oscar up, Rick?”. He replies: “I want to be alone with him and bond.  You stay here ready to welcome him. I have waited fourteen years for him and need my special moment”. Sounds like Marlene Dietrich - think that was who said it i.e. “I want to be alone” and the famous fourteen year struggle  phrase rises again like a phoenix from the ashes.

Ricky entered carrying a tiny little ball of puppy that just covered his hand and half way to his elbow.  Well you will think that  I have sold out but I was smitten because Oscar looked at me with big brown eyes and started licking my arm.  I  got hold of him and from that moment on all thoughts I had previously had vanished.  I loved this babe and he loved me.  I must tell you also that Oscar is mine and my guard dog and he loves me. Whoops!  Is it not strange that me who did not want a dog ended up fighting people over him and that he really comes to me when Ricky wanted him. However since we now have Milly then we have a dog each. More on Milly later since I have to relate the tails or rather tales and adventures of Oscar pre Milly!  Now I do believe in love at first sight  having met and cuddled Oscar so move over Ricky.  Feel a song coming on “Move over darling”. I really now wish I was not going on holiday since I am going to miss out on seeing Ossie.

Ah  I wish you could have seen him as he was ever so gently placed on the ground and he sniffed at everything and explored.  I looked at him mesmerised and could not believe what I had  missed out on for all of fourteen years.  I have now got that phrase and try to say Ricky stopped us having a dog. Let me tell you it does not work he brings it back to me.

 Oscar went into his little cage but we could tell he was hot because he padded out.   He  lay on a corner of our decking in the shade. Sunbathing went right out of the window and I kept looking at him and going over to pick him up.  I felt so proud and like a new mum. Well I was!  I kid you not I declared there and then I would fight for Os if anyone did anything to him or said anything about him.  Boy did that get put into effect.

Oscar was gorgeous and Ricky kept picking him up and looking at him adoringly like the proud new dad.  Loads of photos were taken and the first one taken has pride of place on the hearth in the lounge.  Baby Ossie lies in Rick’s hand and extends just a little up his fore arm. Oscar had his first meal and loved it.  What a lunch. I then decided as Oscar was having a nap that I would top up my tan ready to go on holiday the next day.  I put on my lotion and lay on my tum on my lounger and removed my bikini top. You can guess what comes next. Oscar woke up and ran off with it and I could not move. I gingerly wrapped a towel around me and chased him, rescued my top and steeled myself to make sure top safe. I lay down again and off he went with my top.  I actually laughed and did not worry as I realised that my baby was playing games.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I now know what I should or could have done to prevent total house destruction by Oscar later - he had been giving me a taster. Maybe a slight exaggeration but he went on to cost us a fortune but he is well worth it.  Now I  sound like the  Loreal advert.  By the end of this tale- got it right this time - I will have covered so many film, song and advert titles.

I have to leave my baby to go and pick up Gill as she is staying over ready for us to depart early for Manchester Airport to go on our Greek adventure. We are off to Aghios Nikolaos on the  Greek mainland.
