A thin sheet of wood covered the top of the almost installed septic tank. Veronica and Camillia tiptoed cautiously onto the cover and bounced up and down lightly. “Jump on it,” they sang to Gloria. Then they carefully stepped away and giggled, “It’s just like a trampoline.” Gloria listened to her sisters, stepped onto the cover, and jumped up and down. From his porch, Uncle Tony warned her to stop but she ignored him. Her sisters laughed and cheered, “Jump Harder!” Uncle Tony heard the wood begin to squeak. He cussed then charged down the stairs to the impending disaster. The laughter and jumping continued. The moment he arrived on the scene, the wood cracked open and Gloria splashed into the septic tank. He reached into the smelly tank and pulled her out by her wrist. Her sisters ran away. Uncle Tony ran for the hose.
