Peter Opossum's Forest Park Adventures

As the summer passed, I realized I had to carry out my plan to ride the Zooline Railroad.

One morning, when my family was going to sleep, I acted like I was sleeping too, but instead I went to the zoo. I was very careful not to be seen by any people.

The Zooline Railroad train stops at several locations. I decided to get on at the Big Cat Station. When the train pulls out from this station, it goes through a tunnel. I knew I would have a chance to jump on the back of the train as it went into the tunnel.

I made it! I got on the very last car and sat very still on the floor. The conductor said, “All aboard,” and I heard the train whistle blow.

What fun I had as the train whizzed to the next station. When it came to a stop, I quickly got off and ran for cover.

I tried to run through a building to get back to Kennedy Woods. It is a building called the Living World. Many school groups visit there to learn about the animals. The children sometimes get to touch the animals. That day, someone saw me and thought I was part of the lesson.

The teacher picked me up and said, “How did you get out of your cage?” It was a lesson on nocturnal animals. I was very quiet while the teacher told the children about opossums. I let the children pet me.

When the teacher was showing another animal, I saw my chance to escape. Everyone was paying attention to her and no one noticed! I ran all the way back home and I was sound asleep when my family woke up.

Wow, what an adventure! This is my secret, and I will never forget it.
