About the Book
The object of this book is to SAVE you, the reader, TIME, MONEY, and EFFORT. By reading this book, you will learn that what affects the tree from the ground up is in the root collar. Pictures will help you to identify various problems above the ground, hleping you realize that you have more than likely a strangling of the root collar. This strangling can be excess dirt, mulch, sucker roots, or girdling roots. The tree will invariably need a root collar excavation. If you call someone out for help, you will be able to know if they know what they are talking about. Remember, anyone you call for help should show you a copy of their license; example, Certified Arborist. Not all Certified Arborists are created equal and you will be able to discuss this when talking to them. If they do any work for you, have the person to get you a copy of their insureance. About the Author
Author
In Brazil, Indiana (1949), Harvey Francis began working in the tree industry clearing lines for the telephone company. Soon he and his son, Don, began contracting residential tree work. Don continued to help his father during his free time while he finished high school and college.
In 1962 Don married and moved to Bloomington to teach school. In 1971 Don began advertising tree work in this community. Together he and his eldest son - Don Jr. - began Francis Tree Service. In 1978, the business incorporated and changed its name to A-1 Tree Service, Inc. In 1984, Don retired from 20 years of teaching in the Bloomington North and South High School to devote all of his time to his tree business.
In 1988, because of the large demand from its tree care customers, A-1 Tree Service expanded into the lawn care business. The business name was changed to A-1 Tree and Lawn Service.
Customers were serviced in these areas: Bloomington, Martinsville, Bedford, Nashville, Stanford, Spencer, Smithville, Ellettsville, and Greenwood.
In 1996 Don sold the A-1 Tree and Lawn Service which had grown to 30 employees and began a new business, A Doctor of Trees, working to only save trees and do consulting.
A Doctor of Trees works within the boundaries of Bedford to the South, Columbus to the East, Kokomo to the North, and Terre Haute to the West with most of the work done in the Indianapolis area.
Don has every degree and license one can get in the tree industry from Indiana State, Purdue, and Indiana University. He is continually working to continue his education and knowledge by workshops and tree conventions.
