The Adventures of Pisten Billy

Very high in a remote and beautiful mountain village there lived a little piste basher called Pisten Billy. During winter when the snows fell deep and silent the village transformed into a very busy and exciting ski resort..........Pisten Billy was a very cheerful little fellow who worked hard delivering all manner of stores and provisions to the local hotels and also to the remote mountain top restaurants high in the thin and wonderfully clear mountain air. His strong little diesel engine and sturdy tracks would carry him up the steepest hills and down the slipperiest slopes....However, whilst he was basically a very happy fellow, deep down Pisten Billy had a dream. He yearned to go out through the dead of night with the big piste bashers to comb and prepare the snowy slopes in time to welcome the skiers and boarders with the coming of the new dawn. But the big piste bashers just laughed at him telling him he was much too small for such dangerous night time work. Pisten Billy hated to be laughed at and resolved to pursue his dream no matter what.....One dark stormy January day Pisten Billy was chugging round the villages collecting stores when one of the big piste bashers roared down from the mountain, black smoke spewing from his exhaust pipe in his haste. The whole village rushed out to see what the matter was. He explained that an enormous snow storm had hit the mountain tops and a number of skiers were cut off in a small restaurant near the summit. They could only be reached by a narrow ledge path and all of the big piste bashers were much too wide to get to them.....Nobody knew what to do until a little voice at the back of the crowd said “I could reach them”. Everyone turned to see little Pisten Billy standing nervously at the back of the throng...
