J?” He said my name, but I must have been in shock because I did not hear him until the second time. “J?” He grabbed my face in concern.
I snapped out of it, “Oh hey, Justyc.”
“Baby, what’s wrong?” He glanced at Makai, unsure of what was going on. “Are you ok?” He grabbed me and pressed his body against mine in a hug.
I needed to think quickly, because I was not going to let him know what had happened here. I was not ready to lose another love. “My bad, baby, I wasn’t focusing. I’m all over the place today. I’m fine, though.”
He pushed me away from him so he could see my face. “Why are you crying?” His eyes darted over to Makai, then back into mine.
I lifted my right hand to my face and wiped my eyes clear. “Oh, no I’m not crying. It’s just allergies or something.” I pointed my right thumb behind me. “I was just in your new room and it’s a little dusty, that’s all.”
He scrounged his face up, trying to understand then said, “Um…ok.”
I smiled at him and thought, “Whew,” in my head. Then, I assured him because he still did not seem convinced with, “Baby, I’m ok. Really.”
He held my face in his hands, giving one last check, and nodded in approval. Then, he stepped into the apartment and shook hands with Makai.
“Hey man, what’s up?” Makai spoke, as the two slapped five and gave hugs.
Justyc looked uneasy as he hugged the shirtless Makai and turned in my direction once more as a result. “So, J, baby, what did you say you were doing here?” He seemed as if he needed some further explanation.
I was still standing at the open door, unsure of what to do. “Oh, me?” I was trying so hard not to be obvious. “Oh, I just came by to check out your new room. I wanted to see it so I could set it up for you…as a surprise. What about you?” I referenced him with my right hand. “You didn’t tell me you were coming up here today.” I knew I sounded stupid, so I tried changing the subject.
