It was a powerful but natural event that had run its course, and now everything was very still. It was at this time, this moment, when the landscape appeared most serene, that Rockman began to take shape.

About the Book
The story begins after an unusual storm. Rockman emerges from the sea onto a deserted beach ready to explore.
The beach, the likes of which can only be found in the great Pacific Northwest, is home to a variety of natural formations, plants and animals. During the winter months, there’s little difference among the grays of the sky and those of the ocean. The beauty of those native elements as well as their colors is the inspiration for the illustrations. The reader is encouraged to remember, or if they've never been, imagine such a place.
About the Author
Joy Fernandez is a Seattle-based architect who also enjoys writing and painting. She travels as much as possible to experience the aspects and elements that a make an area unique. These observations are evident in her designs, paintings, drawings and stories as she uses these tools to describe or illustrate a place.
