Vinnie was awe struck.
He had never seen a castle, well, not in person. He had seen pictures of castles, and on television. Upon seeing the Castle, he felt a sense of relief. He got up off the ground, brushed himself off and walked toward the magnificent sight. He saw that the front door was wide open and through the doorway, he saw something glimmering in the background. As he got closer to the massive entranceway, he shouted out,
“Hello”.
There was no answer, so he continued to walk through the entranceway and down the corridor into a big room with a high cathedral ceiling. At the far end of the room was a large fireplace. On each side of the fireplace were two large chairs. Each chair had a small table next to them. A massive mantel surrounded the fireplace.
Above the fireplace, and half way down the wall was, what looked like a very large clock of some sort. Vinnie was not able to see the details of the clock, he only surmised that it was a clock because what else would it be.
On top of the fireplace were about a dozen beautiful crystal balls, each brilliant, and unique in their color. Each ball was mounted, and on the base was a gold plaque with an etching.
Vinnie walked closer to the fireplace, feeling the warmth on his red cheeks.
He said again, “Hello”, as he looked around the room.
He could not see anything because it was so dark, and the only things that were lit were the beautiful crystal balls on the mantel. He walked closer to the fireplace to get closer to balls, so he could see them better. He decided he wanted to look at an emerald green ball. In order to reach the emerald green crystal ball, he had to stand on one of the shelves on the mantel.
With his right arm stretched outward to reach for the ball, he was just about to grab the ball, when he heard a woman say,
"Don't touch that!” startled, he lost his balance and fell backward, landing on his butt. The woman laughed, and said, “Are you okay Vinnie.” He looked up. There stood a middle-aged woman with either red or brown hair. It was too dark in the room to see her true hair color. She was wearing what appeared to be a pinkish colored dress with a ruffled white collar. As she walked toward him, the dress dragged along the floor because it was so long. She had a very kind face, and when she spoke; there was innocence in her voice.
Vinnie replied, “Yes, but how did you know my name?”
She reached down to offer him her hand to help him up off the floor. Vinnie reached up to grab her hand, she replied, “Baroness Von Lekton knows everything my dear boy.”
Vinnie got up, and brushed his backside of any dirt that may have gotten on his clothing. He was a very neat child when it came to his appearance.
He said, “I have to go home.”
The Baroness had a look of disappoint on her face, she said, “Before you leave, would you like me to tell you about my crystal balls, and perhaps you can take a closer look at one. You were reaching for the emerald green ball, which is one of my favorites as well.” Vinnie said, “Okay”.
The Baroness smiled at the fact that she would be able to show off her crystal balls. She loved when children showed an interest in her collection. She walked over to the mantel, took down the emerald ball, and walked back to her chair to the right of the fireplace.
As she sat down, she told Vinnie to come over to her. She patted one hand on her knee, as if she were motioning a pet to come to her. Vinnie walked over and stood next to her as he gazed at the crystal ball.
The Baroness began to tell Vinnie about her crystal balls, “The crystal balls on the mantel are my personal collection. These crystal balls are very special. There are currently seven balls, each with their own color, and story.”
Vinnie interrupted her to ask, “Why are they special?”
The Baroness said, “Because they are magical.”
Vinnie said, “Yeah, right.”
The baroness said, “You doubt me. You will soon see otherwise. As I was saying, each crystal ball has its own story that it tells. The stories are from children's classic stories.” She paused to lower her glasses to read the writing on the gold plaque on the base of the crystal ball. “This crystal ball is the Wizard of OZ. Have you ever heard of that story before, Vinnie?”
Vinnie unimpressed said, “Yes, I watched it with my Mom on T.V.”
The Baroness smiled, and said, “Very good. Did you enjoy the movie? Vinnie grinned to himself thinking about the funny looking flying monkeys in the movie.
"Yeah, I liked the flying monkeys.” he said.
The Baroness laughed aloud, and said, “What is magical about these crystal balls is that they allow you to enter the fantasy world of those crystal balls by physically entering the ball.”
Vinnie rolled his eyes at the Baroness, and said, “Yeah right! Enter the ball?”
The Baroness said, “Yes, enter the ball, and it is really quite simple. All you need to do his place your hand on the ball; close your eyes and say, Eintreten. This means to enter in German.”
Vinnie now eager, “Can I try?”
The Baroness said, “Yes, but there are three important things you must know first, and that you must always remember.
